About Community Greening:
Community Greening is an urban forestry nonprofit based in Palm Beach County that has planted and distributed more than 26,500 trees since 2016. Community Greening is a member of the Arbor Day Foundation’s Alliance for Community Trees, a group of community-based organizations dedicated to the planting and caring of trees. Programming includes tree plantings, tree giveaways, urban orchards, nursery operations, and the Youth Tree Team.
Community Greening envisions an engaged community creating sustainable urban green spaces and a vibrant tree canopy to equitably strengthen our environment, economy, society, and health.
About the Opportunity:
Community Greening’s Youth Tree Team program is a youth workforce development program for high school students. Youth Tree Team members work up to 28 hours a week in the summer planting and caring for trees in the Nursery and in the community, obtaining job skills, and learning about ‘green industry’ career paths. The Youth Tree Team Summer Coordinator, in collaboration with full-time staff, is responsible for leading and motivating a crew of up to 9 high school students.

Duties and responsibilities:
- Lead, supervise, and motivate the Youth Tree Team program participants
- Ensure compliance with safety standards and risk management protocols for all activities, including use of appropriate PPE
- Facilitate meaningful activities that align with Youth Tree Team programming objectives, including nursery, tree planting, and tree maintenance activities as scheduled
- Work collaboratively with other staff to assess Youth Tree Team performance and provide guidance and encouragement
- Effectively manage and mitigate any conflict that may arise amongst team members, and report any incidents or issues to the Executive Director
- Plan enrichment activities related to forestry, natural resource management, community engagement, and environmental stewardship
- Maintain required records and data for grant reporting and program assessment, including but not limited to pre/post testing, timesheets, program expenditures, participant surveys
- Provide both positive and constructive feedback to Youth Tree Team members informally throughout the summer sessions as well as during formal feedback sessions
- Other duties as assigned
Qualifications:
- Minimum of 3 years’ experience in education or youth development working directly with students
- Bachelor’s degree in education, environmental education, natural resources, urban forestry, forestry, horticulture or related discipline, or an equivalent amount of education and experience
- Knowledge of Florida ecology preferred
- Valid Florida driver’s license with clean driving record
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office suite (Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint, etc.)
Requirements:
- Ability to lift 40 pounds repetitively.
- Ability to work in a physically demanding environment that requires repetitive bending, lifting, and shoveling
- Comfortable working outside in all weather conditions
- Willingness and ability to put safety first
- Willingness to work as part of a team and effectively communicate with other team members
- Ability to be an example of integrity and create a respectful work environment with others
- Ability to represent Community Greening
- Ability to work independently and demonstrate mature decision-making skills
- Ability to effectively and efficiently maintain and complete projects
