Community Greening and Partners Plant 1,000 Native Shade Trees at Dyer Park in WPB!

After eight months, twelve planting events, and more than 1,000 community volunteers, Community Greening is proud to celebrate the completion of one of the largest projects in our organization’s history!

Thanks to a partnership with the Florida Forest Service and Palm Beach County Parks & Recreation,1,000 Florida native shade trees have been planted throughout Dyer Park in West Palm Beach, FL – transforming this former landfill into an even greener, cooler, and more resilient green space!

Over the course of this project, volunteers from every corner of Palm Beach County joined forces to plant native shade trees that will benefit generations to come. Students, scout troops, families, neighborhood residents, corporate groups, civic organizations, and community leaders turned out in droves, with many volunteers helping to plant on more than one occasion!

Whether they were a first-timer or veteran tree planter, all volunteers were welcomed, as Community Greening’s Certified Arborists and trained staff were on hand to give planting demonstrations and guide and assist volunteers. In addition to providing shovels, gloves, snacks and water, a live DJ is always on-hand for every Community Greening tree planting, ensuring a great time is had by all.

As the canopy at Dyer Park matures, these new trees will provide much-needed shade along the park’s popular walking and mountain biking trails, helping reduce surface and air temperatures for park goers. They’ll also improve air quality, create habitat for native wildlife, capture stormwater, and make the park a more beautiful and inviting place for the thousands of people who enjoy it each year.

Projects like these demonstrate that trees are ‘critical green infrastructure’ for our communities, and what is possible when government agencies, nonprofit organizations, businesses, and community members work together toward a common goal. Trees are not only an investment in our communities today, but for future generations as well.
