Teens, homeowners and local leaders emerged from their houses and joined together to plant 45 trees in Betty Thomas Park. People were literally giddy to get outside and dance to the music of DJ SoNyce. Thanks to a national grant from TD Tree Days, we partnered with the Arbor Day Foundation and the City of Boynton Beach to add pigeon plums, sugarberries, red maples, live and laurel oaks, Simpson’s stoppers and gumbo limbos along the walking path for the runners, rollerskaters and walkers to enjoy. “The City of Boynton Beach just adopted a community-wide goal of planting 3,000 trees per year to increase our tree canopy from 16% to 20% by 2035. We are grateful for TD Tree Days and our partnership with Community Greening to help put our plan into action,” said Rebecca Harvey, the City’s Sustainability Manager.

Our Stories: First TD Tree Days

Launched as an employee engagement program in 2010, TD Tree Days provides volunteers with a meaningful, tangible way to leave a legacy in their communities.

During the inaugural events in 2010, 3,500 employees planted 18,000 trees in 54 communities across Canada, from Victoria to St. John’s and many points in between.

Since then, TD Tree Days has branched out to the U.S. and across the ocean. By the end of 2014, thousands of volunteers, including TD employees, their families and friends, and our customers and community partners, had planted more than 185,000 trees in four countries through the program. TD has set a goal to plant another 50,000 trees in 2015.

We are proud of this initiative and grateful to all of the volunteers who have dug-in to help grow their local forest canopy.

Arbor Day Foundation

We inspire people to plant, nurture, and celebrate trees.

Founded in 1972 — the centennial of the first Arbor Day observance — the Arbor Day Foundation is the largest 501(c)3 nonprofit membership organization dedicated to planting trees. More than 1 million members, supporters, and valued partners have helped us plant more than 350 million trees in neighborhoods, communities, cities, and forests throughout the world to ensure a greener and healthier future for everyone.

Our vision is to help others understand and use trees as a solution to many of the global issues we face today, including air quality, water quality, a changing climate, deforestation, poverty, and hunger.

The impact we make on our world is accomplished through our conservation and education programs. We work to restore forests, improve tree cover in communities, and inspire the next generation of tree planters to ensure this important work endures.
