A variety of Florida shade tree species are available to choose from.
Applicants can pick the species that will be the right tree for their property based on the planting site’s conditions (sun/shade/drainage, future growth potential, biodiversity, etc).
All trees come in 15-gallon containers and must be planted & maintained by recipient.

Paradise tree

Beautiful canopy tree with distinct shiny leaves and inconspicuous flowers. Great medium size shade tree.

  • Flowers – Yellow, creamy white

Pigeon plum

Fast-growing evergreen tree with small, whitish-green flowers. Excellent small to medium-sized tree for subtropical landscapes.

Simpson’s stopper

Excellent small/medium-sized tree. Gets very bushy, ideal for making hedges and shrubs. White fragrant flowers that attract pollinators.

  • Flowers – White, semi-showy clusters, fragrant

Wild tamarind

Also known as a False tamarind, this is moderately-fast growing tree has fern-like leaves, and  an umbrella canopy when mature, making it an ideal shade tree. Drought and salt tolerant once established.

  • Mature width (max) – 30-50 Feet
  • Foliage – Evergreen
  • Flowers – White, not showy
  • Sun exposure – Full to part sun
  • Moisture requirement – Moist to dry soils
