About Community Greening:
Community Greening is an urban forestry nonprofit based in Palm Beach County that has planted and distributed more than 25,000 trees since 2016. Community Greening is a member of the Arbor Day Foundation’s Alliance for Community Trees, a group of community-based organizations dedicated to the planting and caring of trees. Programming includes tree plantings in neighborhoods parks and schools; urban orchards; tree giveaway programs; and the Youth Tree Team.
Community Greening envisions an engaged community creating sustainable urban green spaces and a vibrant tree canopy to equitably strengthen our environment, economy, society, and health.
Opportunity:
Tree Technician is an entry-level position that conducts work mainly in an outdoors setting. A Tree Technician assists with all aspects of the cultivation, maintenance, and delivery of Community Greening’s trees. On-the-job training is provided for duties and responsibilities.
Reports to the CG Tree Nursery located at 22313 Boca Rio Road, Boca Raton, FL 33433
Duties and responsibilities:
- Unload and load trees and other supplies at the nursery and at event sites.
- Stake, water, mulch, and prune planted trees.
- As needed: plant trees; weed, fertilize, prune, and move trees in containers at the nursery.
- Use and maintain company-owned tools and equipment (including equipment with small engines and vehicles.
- Serve the community with a positive attitude while carrying out the Community Greening mission.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Qualifications:
- Education: High school degree or GRE, or an equivalent amount of education and experience.
- Driving: Valid Florida driver’s license with clean driving record and the ability to pull a trailer or willingness to learn.
- Demonstrated interest and some working knowledge of horticulture and/or arboriculture preferred.
Requirements:
- Ability to lift 50 pounds repetitively.
- Ability to work steadily in a physically demanding environment that requires manual dexterity and repetitive use of fingers, hands, and wrists. Work will involve being on your feet, bending, lifting, and walking over uneven ground. Work may require being bent, stooped, and crouched for up to four hours of time.
- Comfortable working outside in all weather conditions, including light rain and high humidity in temperatures ranging from 100+ to 35 degrees as experienced in South Florida.
- Must have reliable transportation and be available to start work shortly after sunrise.
- Willingness to put safety first and use PPE as required.
