A variety of Florida native shade tree & fruit species are available to choose from.
Applicants can pick the species that will be the right tree for their property based on the planting site’s conditions (sun/shade/drainage, future growth potential, biodiversity, etc).
Native shade trees come in 15-gallon containers and fruit trees come in 7-gallon containers.
Trees are planted & maintained by recipient/homeowner.

Crabwood

Small tree or accent shrub. Good for buffer plantings and suitability for planting near structures

  • Mature height (max) – 10-20 Feet
  • Mature width (max) – Taller than broad
  • Foliage – Evergreen
  • Flowers – Not showy, yellowish/green
  • Sun exposure – Full sun to light shade
  • Moisture requirement – Well-drained soil, moderately drought tolerant

Green buttonwood

A low-branching, multi-trunked, shrubby, evergreen, that is an excellent medium sized shade tree.

  • Mature height (max) – 25-40 Feet
  • Mature width (max) – 20-30 Feet
  • Foliage – Evergreen
  • Flowers – Inconspicuous
  • Sun exposure – Full sun to part sun
  • Moisture requirement – Well-drained soil, moderately drought tolerant

Gumbo limbo

Gumbo limbo is a great shade tree, known as the tourist tree for its reddish, peeling (“sunburned”) bark. Fast grower with large canopy. Excellent medium-sized tree.

  • Mature width (max) – 30 Feet
  • Foliage – Evergreen
  • Flowers – Inconspicuous
  • Sun exposure – Full sun
  • Moisture requirement – Soil moist to dry

Live oak

Gorgeous canopy tree with impressive branches. Adaptable to different soil types. Excellent large shade tree (up to 80 ft).

  • Foliage – Evergreen
  • Flowers – Yellow-green, inconspicuous
  • Sun exposure – Full sun to part sun

Paradise tree

Beautiful canopy tree with distinct shiny leaves and inconspicuous flowers. Great medium size shade tree.

  • Foliage – Evergreen
  • Flowers – Yellow, creamy white
  • Sun exposure – Full sun to part sun
  • Moisture requirement – Moist, well-drained soil

Silver buttonwood

Excellent medium-sized, accent tree due to it’s distinct silvery leaves.

  • Mature height (max) – 15-20 Feet
  • Mature width (max) – 15-20 Feet
  • Foliage – Evergreen
  • Flowers – Inconspicuous, purplish/white
  • Sun exposure – Full sun to part sun
  • Moisture requirement – Regular water, well-drained soil

Simpson’s stopper

Excellent small/medium-sized tree. Gets very bushy, ideal for making hedges and shrubs. White fragrant flowers that attract pollinators

  • Mature height (max) – 10-20 Feet
  • Mature width (max) – 15 Feet
  • Foliage – Evergreen
  • Flowers – White, semi-showy clusters, fragrant
  • Sun exposure – Full sun to light shade
  • Moisture requirement – Soil moist to dry, drought tolerant once established

Avocado (7g)

A wonderful evergreen shade tree, that also provides delicious fruit.
