A variety of Florida native shade tree species are available to choose from.
Applicants should pick the species that will be the right tree for their property based on the planting site’s conditions and estimated mature species size (ie. sun/shade/drainage, future growth potential, biodiversity, etc).
All trees come in 3-gallon containers and must be planted & maintained by recipient.

Dahoon holly

Great for landscaping, this evergreen typically grows to 20-30 ft. Has bright red berries that are excellent for wildlife. Must be planted in pairs for berry production.

  • Mature height (max) – 15-30 Feet

  • Foliage – Evergreen
  • Flowers – Small, inconspicuous greenish-white
  • Sun exposure – Full sun to part sun
  • Moisture requirement – Moist, well-drained soil

FL Keys blackbead

Small tree or shrub that is a great accent tree, with white/pink puffy flowers. Excellent for wildlife, great pollinator.

  • Mature width (max) – Broader than tall
  • Foliage – Evergreen
  • Flowers – White/pink puffy
  • Sun exposure – Full to part sun
  • Moisture requirement – Moist to well-drained

Paradise tree

Beautiful canopy tree with distinct shiny leaves and inconspicuous flowers. Great medium size shade tree.

  • Mature height (max) – 25-50 Feet
  • Mature width (max) – 15-30 Feet
  • Foliage – Evergreen
  • Flowers – Yellow, creamy white
  • Sun exposure – Full sun to part sun
  • Moisture requirement – Moist, well-drained soil

Red maple

Found from Florida to Canada, this fast growing large tree is great for wet, swampy areas such as retention ponds. Distinct red deciduous leaves.

Simpson’s stopper

Excellent small/medium-sized tree. Gets very bushy, ideal for making hedges and shrubs. White fragrant flowers that attract pollinators.
