Urban Orchards

“Let nature be the architect as we reshape our cities, transforming urban spaces into sustainable landscapes that nurture both people and planet.”

Urban Orchards

An Urban Orchard is a vibrant, urban greenspace that addresses food insecurity & accessibility issues, promotes healthy eating, and stimulates environmental stewardship.

These once neglected city-owned lots are now lush and beautiful areas that are home to dozens of fruit trees, which neighbors are encouraged to pick from and enjoy.

What Type of Fruit Trees are Planted?

Urban Orchards feature a wide variety of species including: avocado, breadfruit, canistel, fig, guava, jackfruit, Jamaican cherry, mango, miracle fruit, mulberry, persimmon, sapodilla, sapote, soursop, starfruit and sugar apple.

Local residents are encouraged to pick and enjoy the delicious, fresh fruit!

Transforming Neighborhoods

The Community Grove at Catherine Strong Park was named “Outstanding Program” of the year by the Florida Urban Forestry Council for our work in transforming a neglected lot, into a vibrant orchard that is feeding the community.

The Community Grove was created in 2017 through a partnership with TD Green Streets, Arbor Day Foundation, Grass River Garden Club, and the City of Delray Beach.
